KING ALFRED'S SPORTS CENTRE

In 1977, King Alfred Sports Centre was opened as a joint use facility funded by
Somerset County Council and Sedgemoor District Council.

FACILITIES

SPORTS HALL
Suitable for a wide variety of activities, and
marked out for badminton (four courts),
basketball, five-a-side football, table tennis,
volleyball and tennis.

Trampolines are available and there are two
indoor cricket nets.

The hall can be used for social and
commercial events such as shows and
exhibitions.

SQUASH COURTS
There are two first class squash courts with
viewing facilities.

GYMNASIUM
Ideal for aerobics, keep fit, the martial
arts, yoga, gymnastics etc.

TENNIS COURTS
Outside there are four floodlit hard courts
which are also suitable for hockey,
football training and netball.

FITNESS STUDIO
Complete with exercise cycles, rowing
machines and weights. Ideal for body
building and fitness training.

All users must complete an induction before using
the fitness studio.

Open each evening and Sunday lunchtime. Overlooks the squash courts and sports hall.
Available for bookings.

COURSES

The centre organises a full programme of courses of varying standards for all age
groups. If you wish to learn a new activity, improve your present standard or simply
to join others with a similar interest, then we hope you will find a course appropriate
to your needs. If you don't, then we are always open to suggestions.

JUNIOR ACTIVITIES
Special activities are arranged for children during the school holidays, after school
and weekends.

CLUBS
The sports centre has a number of clubs to which membership is open to anyone
(dependent upon number of players and court time available)

COMPETITIONS
Held regularly at local and regional level. They include badminton, football,
gymnastics, squash, super sports, tennis, triathlon etc.

KEEP FIT AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES
Held weekly on a pay-at-the-door basis, including aerobics, body culture,
toning and circuit training.

EQUIPMENT FOR HIRE OR SALE
You will be able to hire rackets, bats and some other small items of equipment
for a small fee and returnable deposit. Also, squash balls, shuttles, table tennis balls
etc can be purchased. Refreshments are also available.

MAKING A BOOKING
Casual Use
Bookings can be accepted up to 7 days in advance from 9.15am to 10pm by
telephone (Burnham-on-Sea 786868) or in person at the Centre.

Block Bookings
It will be possible for organisations to make a series of bookings in advance,
or to book a single special event more than 7 days ahead.

SPORTS CENTRE MEMBERSHIP
Whilst you can, of course, use the Centre without becoming a member,
payment of an annul fee entitles you to a year's free admission (activity
fees still have to be paid), advance booking advantages, hire of equipment
without deposit and special discounts at certain sports shops.
